SANDRA AND GARY HUGHES – NATURALISTS & PHOTOGRAPHERS
Sandra having been born near Paris France and relocated to South Africa in her teens, brings a certain amount of French chic to the African bush. Both Sandra and Gary have embraced numerous opportunities to explore the Southern African countries on their doorstep. This includes several tours by road, or while Gary is piloting their own pressurized twin aircraft, to countries such as Zimbabwe, Botswana, Malawi and Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar and Mauritius and South Africa.
In addition Sandra and Gary have been on a number of Photographic Safaris to the Masa Mara in Kenya and the Serengeti, Ndutu and the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. Sandra is a specialist wildlife photographer, but also shares her husband’s passion for aviation photography and has attended many airshows in an official capacity such as Duxford in the UK for a number of aviation magazines in South Africa, and Gary has attended airshows in an official capacity such as Oshkosh in the USA and Duxford in the UK for a number of aviation magazines in South Africa. Both Sandra and Gary are published aviation and wildlife photographers.
Sandra and Gary are qualified Field Guides and both eagerly share the many unique and interesting facts they have accumulated over the years while discovering both rare and common species of animal and birdlife while ensuring that the best photographic opportunities can be achieved of the wildlife and birds in their habitats.
Sandra remains focused on safety and is practiced in guiding groups in the bush, either on foot, or while driving a game viewing vehicle, to search for and view the Big Five game in their natural habitat, the African bush. Being fully bilingual in French and English, Sandra is accustomed to guiding French speaking groups.
Born in Zimbabwe and growing up in the bush Gary has solid experiences such as driving boats, which includes guiding game viewing and birding expeditions through the intricate network of the pristine water channels of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. As a skilled and qualified Rifle Handling Operator, Gary remains focused on safety and is also practiced in guiding groups in the bush, either on foot, or while driving a game viewing vehicle, to search for and view the Big Five game in their natural habitat, the African bush. As an advanced level 4X4 driver, Gary has travelled to many remote destinations and his kindred spirit reflects in the diverse and multiple skills and competencies he has mastered to pursue his passion for adventure. Gary is a keen scuba diver with over 350 dives in South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya, Maldives, Mauritius, Madagascar, Trinidad & Tobago and the Mediterranean. In the pursuit of excitement, Gary is the proud holder of a world air speed record set in a Hawker Hunter in 2010 of 908km/hour over a fixed 500km course. The record still stands and is an achievement in that this was a 1965 vintage jet fighter and has participated in many air races in both South Africa and Zimbabwe.
